Brandon Westover and Sahar Zafar discuss using Ictal-Interictal Continuum Abnormality (IICA) burden to predict patient outcome, automating detection of seizure and IICA, and areas of the model needing improvement.
Electroencephalographic Patterns in Neurocritical Care
Dr. Brian Appavu, MD discusses electroencephalographic patterns in neurocritical care as epiphenomena or direct contributors of brain injury. He highlights the effect that seizures and other EEG patterns may have on other neurophysiologic variables (ABP, CPP, brain tissue oxygenation, etc).
Bedside Brain Monitoring in the NICU
The first webinar of our Brain Matters Webinar series is on neonatal brain monitoring, featuring Kathi Salley Randall, RN, MSN, CNS, NNP-BC. Topics covered in this webinar are advantages and disadvantages of cEEG and aEEG, usage of therapeutic hypothermia in neonates, and benefits of multimodal monitoring in neonatal care.

Neonatal EEG Monitoring with Dr. Mark O'Sullivan: CEO & Co-Founder of NeuroBell
At the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) Annual Meeting in 2022, we had the fortune of running into Dr. Mark O’Sullivan, CEO & Co-Founder of NeuroBell, a company developing an innovative medical device that offers portable electroencephalography monitoring, enabling real-time and automated detection of neonatal seizures at the bedside.
Integrating EEG in the Pediatric Neuro ICU: A Conversation with Dr. Brian Appavu
Brian Appavu, MD, is an assistant professor of neurology at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He is one of the most active pediatric neurologists in the field of multimodal brain monitoring. We caught up with Brian at the American Clinical Neurophysiology meeting in Austin, Texas. He talks about what is unique to monitoring electroencephalography in the ICU as opposed to other applications. Brian also talks about a future that includes a closer merger of epilepsy and neurocritical care.
Does EEG Influence Outcome in Traumatic Brain Injury – The ELECTRO-BOOST Clinical Trial
Dr. Emily Gilmore and Dr. Eric Rosenthal discuss the pioneering ELECTRO-BOOST clinical trial, which is designed to investigate the relationship between electroencephalography features observed in brain-injured patients in the ICU and their eventual clinical outcomes. The conversation also explores how these signals may help improve understanding of recovery patterns and guide future approaches to critical care monitoring.
